Incredible news announcement from the Health Minister today announcing reduced restrictions for Specialist GP management and diagnostics for patients with ADHD- this will now reduce access barriers to older teens and adults who have been facing lengthy delays to access psychiatry services to assist with the diagnostic process for neurodivergent health conditions which have significant impacts on personal and family health and wellbeing. I am a Glasgow-born doctor, graduating from the University of Glasgow in 2000 before embarking on a surgical training pathway which allowed me to gain over 10years of experience across a multitude of disciplines, with a special interest in breast disease.
I emigrated to South Australia in 2011 and began a journey in Emergency Medicine before side stepping into General Practice in 2014 and completing Fellowship of the RACGP in 2018. I have continued to progress with my emergency skills and completed Advanced Diploma in Emergency Medicine in 2023.
Throughout my working life there have been many cross-roads. Having 3 children under 3 caused me to review my career path as well as location of practice. The beauty of change is the wealth of opportunity that comes alongside it.
As a result, I have gained a unique and diverse range of skills and expertise which I put to good use in my career as a GP.
In modern day society some people don't even know what a GP does. Many people use the title of Doctor or Practitioner or Specialist in some area of health, however, being a GP is unique. I am privileged to be amongst around 32000 other GPs in Australia who are able to provide community based, longitudinal, comprehensive general medical care. In short, womb to tomb care, top to toe care, inside and out care. And when I have reached my scope (and occasionally breached my scope) I will happily phone a friend and guide you to the most appropriate skilled tier of healthcare service for your condition, but will continue to act as the gatekeeper for your health at times where hospital level care is needed.
My main areas of interest are in breast disease, adolescent health and wellbeing, neurodivergent health and skin cancer.
I take a holistic, whole-person and whole-family approach to healthcare.
I am working in general practice, skin cancer medicine and still maintain my emergency skills working FIFO in regional EDs in QLD.
